Awnings for home

Home awnings versus Commercial awnings

There is a huge difference between home and commercial awning. In general sizes may differ between commercial and home awnings. The size range of commercial awnings goes a bit further. And in some rare case home owners seek commercial sizes to cover their home patios. However this happens only a few times per year.

Mechanical differences between commercial and home awnings

Commercial awnings need more complex electronic systems compared to home awningsAnother crucial difference is in the mechanical and/or technical aspect of the awning. Although both commercial and home awnings come in electronically operated versions, company buildings often seek more advanced and complex solutions. Some buildings, for example, have many windows or a huge terras which needs to be covered by a number of awnings. In most case these will need to be able to be operated all at once, but they should also allow individual operation to match the needs of the person or persons sitting next to the window. Some like to work while sitting in the sun while others depend on their computer screens for example and thus need to avoid the sunshine at all times to enable visibility. At the end of the day, all awnings will need to be retracted when the building is closed for the night. It would be too time consuming to retract all awnings one by one, so it has to be possible to do this this all in one go. This level of engineering is never asked for in the case of awnings for home use.

Operating the home awning versus the commercial awning

The last difference might sound surprising, but makes a lot of sense. It is regarding the control device of the commercial versus the home awning. While you will quite frequently come across remote controlled awnings for home, you will rarely if ever, see this in commercial buildings. The reason for this is quite simple. How often do you find yourself looking the the remote control of your television set? Exactly! So guess what happend when several employees of a company use the remote control to operate the awnings? People will spend most of their days just looking for the device. Remote controls for the home awning is therefore a fantastic solution, yet for companies it’s quite the opposite.
